1. Describe GSS and what the members mean to you?
It's hard to put into words what Gamma Sigma Sigma and its members
mean to me. When I think of GSS so much comes to mind. To me GSS is more than a sorority; it's like a family, a family
full of shared memories, togetherness, love, understanding, and giving. Giving not only to themselves, and others in
the sorority, but to the community, the school, and to everyone, including myself. So many of you have touched my life in
a way that without you, I wouldn't be who and where I am today. When I came to college I was lost, joining TKE was the
best decision I ever made, because in doing so, I had the opportunity to meet all of you. Gamma Sigma Sigma has brought
so much to my life, girls that I know I can turn to for anything, girls that I have some of my best memories with and girls
that I know I have made lasting friendships with.
2. Why would you be a good GSS Sweetheart?
GSS is a group of girls that has done so much for everyone, I want to be able to do that for GSS, to give back…to
do as much as I can to be there for all of you like you all have for me. To do for you what you have done for me. I
am one who loves to be involved, being involved with the activities that you are all involved in, doing service with all of
you would be one thing that I would love. When I'm with girls from GSS I have the best time, I have the best memories with
a lot of you girls. I have so many friends in the sorority, that having the opportunity to be at functions and to hang out
and to help you girls all the time would be awesome! It's hard to put into words how you feel about a group...because
it's not only the group but it's the individuals in the group that make it what it is and Gamma Sigma Sigma's Alpha-Iota chapter
has some of the best, most down to earth, most real, most amazing people that I've ever met, and being involved and associated
with that would be amazing!
3. What types of service/community involvement are you currently associated with?
Currently
in Australia I've been involved with a few community service activities. I went to Leevterton, which is a very poor
aboriginal community and helped them to clean, and to repair buildings that are in disrepair etc. I also participated
in John Curtin weekend, where I went to play with little kids who are underprivileged, we did arts and crafts, etc…
for a weekend. Back at UMD I've been involved with Walk-a-Thon, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army-bell ringing and involved
in the UMD homecoming events. During the summer in Minnetonka I was involved in the Wells Fargo "Paint-a-Thon" though
my mom's work, as well as the benefit for the Special Olympics through the Minnetonka Police Department with my Dad.
4. How do you intend to uphold the ideals of service, friendship, and Equality?
As far as Service, I couldn't be happier to do a whole bunch of service with you girls. I love doing service and I
would be even happier to do it with you guys, along with all the service that I participate in through TKE. Friendship
is apparent, I'm a very social and friendly guy, there's hardly a person I don't like. I especially enjoy all of the ladies
of GSS and the other Greek organizations on campus and so friendship isn't a hard one for me. Equality is how I live
my everyday life, equality has so many meanings but as far as treating everyone equally and such, I believe that's how I handle
my life and the situations I encounter. I've learned that a lot being down in Australia, where there are a lot of underprivileged
individuals. I've learned to put the differences aside and to treat them as if they were a member of my own family.
5. Additional Comments:
Being away
from Duluth and especially the Ladies of Gamma Sigma Sigma has been one of the hardest things I've ever had to endure, but
in doing so, I know now not to take for granted the day to day interactions, the smiles on the faces of friends, and the little
things that the ladies of GSS give me everyday...I wish I had an opportunity to meet the new girls this semester, but I look
forward to being back with all you girls and being able to meet all the new girls and just to see everyone! Even being
gone in Australia, some of the girls have helped me so much, helped me cope with my homesickness, etc… just by talking
and making me laugh and it's been wonderful! Thank you to all of you for the nomination and you don’t know how
excited I would be if I was given the opportunity to be your 2005 Sig Sweetheart!
